SSU to Host Ohio Region 7 Homeland Security Active Aggressor Exercise
(Portsmouth, OH – October 1, 2024) – The campus of Shawnee State University in Portsmouth will play the role of the fictious Columbia State University on Thursday October 3rd and Friday October 4th as law enforcement Special Response Teams (SRT) from around southeastern Ohio take part in an Ohio Homeland Security active aggressor exercise.
Officers from Athens, Chillicothe, Jackson, Logan, Portsmouth, Oak Hill, Ohio University, Rio Grande, and Wellston Police Departments, as well as deputies from Athens, Hocking, Jackson, and Perry County Sheriff’s Departments will take part in the two-day exercise that is designed to test their capabilities to respond to an active aggressor situation.
THIS IS ONLY AN EXERCISE. The public is asked to avoid the area directly around Shawnee State University on Thursday October 3rd and Friday October 4th.
On Monday, South Webster High School welcomed fabric artist, Kate Gorman, for a one-week Artist-in-Residency. Gorman will be exploring the theme of "place" with students in Kate Claxon's Advanced Art and CCP Art classes, reflecting on the unique, natural beauty of southern Ohio. Each student will create personal cyanotype images and hand-sewn books during the residency. This program is coordinated by Sharee Price, Gifted Services Coordinator at the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

Bloom-Vernon Local will be operating on a two-hour delay tomorrow morning, Monday, September 30 to allow daylight for travel in the morning. This will allow safer travel for our students as there may still be debris on some of our roads in the district. Have a good evening Jeep Nation.
