January 23rd Update

Good morning Jeep Nation! This week we will bring you our normal sports schedules and the like, but we also have a story from Mrs. Cyndy Hykes about last week’s Mock Trial Tournament. Our kids did a great job. We also have a picture!

Our Lady Jeeps will be playing 3 contests this week. They will be playing Glenwood at home tonight starting at 6:00 p.m. They will be playing West on Thursday at home starting at 6:00 p.m. They will also be playing Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Oak Hill here at home as a makeup from a previous date.

Our Boys team will be playing Wheelersburg at home on Tuesday, home against Waverly on Friday and at Clay on Saturday. All of those contests begin at 6:00 p.m.

Our Mock Trial team did a great job last Friday, instead of us doing a writeup, Mrs. Hykes, she sent one to the staff of the district and it was very well done:

Good Morning!

Fridayour mock trial team competed in our district competition. Mock trial tournaments are a little different from most tournament competition in…well a lot of ways. Chief among these is that there is no seeding, and to advance you must win both your morning and afternoon rounds (one being your plaintiff and the other your defense sides). There were 12 teams in this year’s tournament -- including three teams from River Valley that had never before competed. This allowed four teams to advance. -- Ironton St. Joe, Portsmouth, West, and Notre Dame.

Last year we competed against Portsmouth and beat them to advance to regionals. This year again we competed against them, and they beat us in an extremely close round. In the afternoon we soundly defeated Valley and Grace Raison took the best witness award and Syd McCoy took the best attorney award. It was a great season and our students always represent South Webster so well. They have earned a reputation for their unique style which is smart, tough, but smooth.

Have a great day!

Thanks,

Cyndy
