I apologize for not getting these out sooner.
Last night we beat Valley 48-40. We came out pretty flat, but kept a lead the entire time. Shane led us in scoring with 22, Shiloah had 16 and a tremendous alley oop dunk, Alek had 8 points and great defense on their best scorer, and Matthew had 2. It was a good win for us.
Saturday night we went into Clay against and nearly knocked off a very good 15-2 Clay team. We were up 1 with 2:30 left, they came down and scored, we had a layup that rattled out, they scored again and we were down 3.. We had a good look at a 3 to tie it, just missed it. Final score was 45-38 Clay due to free throws in last minute. Nonetheless, it was a very good effort by our kids, we just (unfortunately) weren't able to pull it out. Shane had 14 points, Shiloah had 8, Alek had 12, Matthew 3, and Ruth 1.
Friday night we had a very good Waverly team come in, but unfortunately weren't able to pull that one out. We were down 1 at the end of the 3rd and hung around all game. We were down 2 with a few minutes left and Shane had a great look at an open 3, missed it, and they came down to hit a 3 and we were down 5 -- again, pretty much putting a nail in the coffin. We competed until the final horn and the final was 59-50 Waverly due to free throws at the end. Matthew had 7 points, Shane 11, Ruth 8, Shiloah 6, Smitty 3, Alek 13, and Devyn had 2.
We went through a pretty brutal stretch of games there against really good opponents. We were right there in all of them, just came up short. We're going to keep pushing these young men and hopefully hit our stride heading into the tournament.
